Dogs Get a New Life in Canada

A remarkable joining of forces has led to 3 dogs flying from Dubai to Toronto, Canada on their way to a new home.

The canine travellers

Magnet is an absolute stunning beauty of a Jumbo Doberman! He was surrendered by his owner. The owner had to go back to Egypt and could not take Magnet with him. He was extremely well cared for by his original owner; however he was surrendered in his best interest. Magnet is both beautiful on the outside and on the inside!

Abby is a gorgeous Saluki / Canaan mix. She jumped in the car of one of our volunteers and seemed to ask for a ride to the shelter. She is extremely graceful and is a true star during dog training. Somehow she has been overlooked in our shelter for quite a while, so we are very happy she is moving to Canada, where people appreciate her just for what she is: a gorgeous, well trained, happy dog.

Silver is a calm and elegant Saluki. He was living on the streets in an area of RAK and people feared for their children with him around – probably because of his size. There is nothing to fear about Silver though as he doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body. We caught him by saying “come here boy” in a friendly tone of voice and he just walked over to us. He is very gentle, calm, friendly and a beautiful Saluki. He will find a loving home in Canada soon, no doubt. But first he will join Abby in a foster home.

How this was all possible

Children from the RAK Academy (Year 6) have been visiting our Centre for the last few years. They learn about an animal’s needs – that are not so different from our own needs – and overcome their fears and shyness with the animals and learn to walk and train our dogs and how to cuddle and play with the cats.

When we told the year 6 students there was an opportunity for a few dogs to find a home in Canada, these children did not hesitate and raised enough money to buy a flight ticket for all three dogs. They have taken the measurements of the dogs, bought them travel crates and have given them plenty of love and attention!

These dogs got offered an opportunity for a second chance in life in Canada by the Arabian Saluki Centre of Canada. This wonderful organization found 3 of our dogs loving (foster) homes in Canada and even raised extra money towards buying the flight tickets.

Because of this connection in different parts of the worlds, through different generations of people, these 3 dogs are flying off to a whole new adventure Thursday December 6th 2012.

A few students from RAK Academy along with their teachers and RAK AWC staff went to Dubai International Airport to send these three beauties on their way to their new lives.

They all arrived safely; they got to experience the cold weather together for the first time!!

This is a fantastic tale of what can be achieved with a little determination! We are indebted to all of the children at RAK Academy who made this possible, RAK Academy teacher Val Hart for making us a part of the lives of her pupils and flight buddy and relocator Linda Tedd.

All dogs will be in their forever homes by 2013!
